1) Rosalyn Sussman Yalow (born July 19, 1921) is an American medical physicist, and a co-winner of the 1977 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for her development of the radioimmunoassay (RIA) technique. Rosalyn Sussman Yalow, working with Solomon Berson at the Bronx Veterans Administration Hospital (New York, USA) set up a radioisotope service where they invented the RadioImmunoAssay technology (RIA). RIA technology was later modified to the ELISA technology. In 1971, Peter Perlmann and Eva Engvall at Stockholm University in Sweden, and Anton Schuurs and Bauke van Weemen in The Netherlands, independently published papers which synthesized this knowledge (RIA) into methods to perform EIA/ELISA.
